From September 11th-15th, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Veterans Table Tennis Tour was on in Townsville.

It was the third round of the 2019 World Veterans Table Tennis Tour in Townsville.

Organisers of the event are the Townville Table Tennis Association.

A total of 14 Victorian players took part in the four-day table tennis tour event match.

Congratulations to our Victorians who flew the Victorian flag high.

Mick Wright won 3 Gold Medals.
 

Over 75 Men’s Singles - Wright combined with Harry Bligh from Queensland to win the Over 70 Men’s Teams and Over 70 Men’s Doubles.

Simon Johnson won 3 Gold Medals.

30-49 Men’s Singles and Johnson ombined with Barry Griffiths to win the Over 40 Men’s Teams and Over 40s Men’s Doubles.

Men’s Singles Over 40 – Johnson won the finals over Safwat Boktour (3-1)

Women’s Singles Over 50 Consolation Final – Chrissy Jones won the final over Donna Abbott (3-1)

Mixed Doubles Over 50 – Belgin Bennett teamed up with Barry Griffiths (NZL), they defeated Wayne Heginbotham and Chrissy Jones (3-0) in the main draw final

Over 50s team event - Tony Davis won silver 

Men’s Singles 60-80 Consolation Finals - Mick Wright won the consolation finals to Paul Uttley (0-3)

Open Women’s Doubles Consolation Final – In the all Victorian final Chau Giang and Yin Zhang won the consolation final over Chrissy Jones and Jean Pierce (3-0)

But no doubt the standout performance of the tournament was from Shurong Zhao who won five Gold, one Bronze and the Women’s Champion of Champions not losing a singles match in the entire tournament.

The Victorian squad collected many more medals having a great time competing against quality opposition from around the world.
