It is with great sadness, that we inform you of the passing of one of Victoria’s Champion female Veteran players in Dot Sanders.
Dot was a top ranked player throughout her many years of playing table tennis, from the Open Age level in the mid 1960's through to the Veteran scene of the 1980's to 2010, where she was forced to retire from table tennis due to health.
Dot participated and represented Victoria for many years in the Veterans, having played the inaugural National Veterans in 1984. Her record at Veteran Nationals was remarkable, winning almost 50 National Titles either individually or in a team.
Over 60’s – 2 singles, 4 women’s doubles, 1 mixed doubles
Over 65’s – 3 women’s doubles, 1 mixed doubles
Over 70’s – 1 singles, 4 women’s doubles, 4 mixed doubles
Over 75’s – 4 singles, 4 women’s doubles, 2 mixed doubles
Over 80’s – 1 singles (her last ever match)
With regard to Teams National Titles, she was involved in approximately 10-15 Gold Medal teams.
Dot won the TTV Ted Sokolowski Veteran Player of the Year on 4 occasions and was inducted into the Table Tennis Victoria Veterans Hall of Fame in 2015.
Dot also represented Australia many times in the Trans New Zealand Test match and played at several World Veteran Championships.
At this stage, we do not know when the funeral will be held, as her family is still returning from overseas but shall advise accordingly
