TTV Internship Experience - Lucas Skene
Published Thu 22 Jun 2023
My time at TTV as a marketing and participation intern has been a very valuable and enjoyable experience. I went into this placement without any marketing experience and therefore wanted to see how a small organisation much like TTV operates and communicates with its clubs/associations and of course it’s actual members. This internship has strengthened my marketing skills and has better prepared myself for a professional career within the sports industry.
Over the 3 months period, I have been involved in a range of activities that I have performed for the state sporting organisation. From developing graphic designs for the #Takeittothetable campaign to helping out at the ‘S-Trend Victorian Open’ in Traralgon, to this intern experience has been nothing short of amazing.
Being involved at the ‘S-Trend Victorian Open’ was one of my favourite experiences at TTV. Given my previous background in Tennis, it was awesome to see some of the best players in the country play table tennis at such a high level in such a competitive nature. The energy and high-quality matches were very reminiscent of how I would compete at tournaments as a junior and have such extreme passion for the sport. Regardless, it was very beneficial seeing the logistics behind holding the Victorian Open and seeing some of the best upcoming athletes in the making. Besides the tournament, making the digital content and editing videos for the #Takeittothetable campaign was extremely fun to be a part of as it really brought out my creative side.
This internship wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Gen, James and Oscar at TTV. The opportunity provided first-hand experience into the operations and activities that state sporting organisations do on a day-to-day basis. I have always loved playing table tennis and being a part of the TTV team has really grown my appreciation for the sport.
For any future students wanting to volunteer or gain hands on experience in the sports industry, Table Tennis Victoria is an organisation that is very willing to help expand your current skills and help get ready for a career in sport.
