TTA Calls for Continued Collaboration and Stability at State/Territory Level
Published Mon 03 Feb 2020
To all States/Territories, clubs/associations and individual members,
With 2020 well underway, we see some States and Territories (S&T’s) heading into General Meetings. It is noted in some S&T’s, notably Victoria and Western Australia, there have been challenges put forward to existing Boards. Whilst governance matters for each S&T, including the election of Board Members, is a matter for its members, it is important we continue to build on the strong progress that is being achieved across table tennis at a national, state and club level.
At TTA, our own turnaround over the past 2.5 years has been achieved due to a strong, aligned Board and Administration that has been prepared to make hard decisions when necessary, but with a long-term vision and strategy in place, which has substantially increased the profile and participation of the sport. This turnaround has included a complete overhaul of TTA from a financial, governance, strategic and operational viewpoint.
We are now starting to see the tangible benefits of these reforms filter through to all levels of the sport. Examples include developing our new entry level program – Spinneroos, developing the Corporate Cup, embedding the National Facilities and Equipment Grant Program, embedding the National Volunteer Awards, implementing a unified strategic planning approach, plus expanding the reach and viability of all national events; and the list goes on.
We couldn’t have achieved this without the trust and support of the S&T's, more than 220 affiliated clubs/associations and over 10,000 individual members. Not everyone has agreed on every decision, but as a whole the sport has been prepared to act for the greater good.
Without doubt, the need to work together has never been greater and the collaborative approach from all levels of the sport in recent years is noticed and appreciated. We cannot forget that we have finite resources that need to be maximised and that we are competing against 70+ other sports for the corporate and government dollar – this is true at every level of the sport.
TTA looks forward to continuing to strengthen our relationships with all S&T's and capitalising on the fantastic opportunity we have to work together to continue the upward trajectory of table tennis in Australia.
