The ‘Twenties’ Age Group Gets its First Run at the 2021 Geelong Open!
Published Thu 20 May 2021
The 2021 Geelong Open Championships are on this weekend with the tournament set to be the first TTV competition to offer the ‘Twenties’ as an age category. The Junior/Senior Open will take place on Saturday, May 22 while the Veterans hit the tables on Sunday, May 23.
In exciting news for younger players born between 1992 and 1999 who have aged out of the U/21 group but are not old enough to compete in the O/30’s, the Twenties event category will provide a chance to compete in a singles division outside of the Men’s and Women’s Open.
The likes of Parleen Kaur, Cherry Le, Richard Li, Rocky Chen and plenty more of our fantastic juniors have been in great form coming into the weekend and will be sure to provide some entertaining table tennis for anyone spectating on Saturday.
“We have had some really terrific junior entry numbers this year and we are hoping for another great turnout in Geelong,” Said TTV ECO, Claire Montgomery.
“Over 85 kids played at the Croydon Masters and Dandenong Open, we had more than 120 juniors enter the Vic Open for the first time in years and saw good numbers again in Ballarat a couple of weeks ago. We’re keen to see some more great junior action this weekend.”
Due to unforeseen calendar changes, we haven’t seen a Veterans tournament since the Vic Open Vets Championships at MSAC over Easter. After almost two months we are very keen to see all of the Vets back on the tables this Sunday.
With just two Senior/Junior and Para tournaments to go until the TTA National Championships in Queensland, the form of Victoria’s top players will be heating up and should produce a great weekend of table tennis.
