Team Vic is Bound for Queensland for the 2022 National Championships!

Published Fri 01 Jul 2022

The 2022 National Championships will be held at the Caloundra Indoor Stadium, on the Sunshine Coast, from 3-10 July. With 135 Team Vic players ready to battle it out in Queensland.

Those 135 players selected across the four categories is the largest team on record to represent Victoria at the Nationals.

This year’s Nationals is set to be a fantastic event, with nearly 450 competitors taking part and all 8 States/Territories being represented. This is the first time all senior, youth, junior and para events have been combined into one National Championships and the event marks the return of the Championships for the first time since 2019.

The team will see 95 Males and 40 Females including 9 Para, 19 Senior, 8 Youth, and a record-breaking 100 Juniors pulling on the navy blue and teal. The players will be spread across 4 Para Teams, 4 Senior Teams, 2 Youth Teams, and 23 Junior Teams, not to mention the Victorian players selected for Presidents Teams.

Team manager and former Team Vic player Claire Montgomery is extremely excited to finally be heading to the Nationals after a couple of years of COVID interruptions.

“Seeing all those new players get on the court this year after 2 years of cancellations is something I am very keen for. We have some players who have been selected in the teams more than once but still haven't set foot on a court in the teal and navy,” said Claire.

“I look forward to seeing as they overcome their nervousness for the first time and start winning those first points, when they realise that "wow, I'm here and I can win!!!” Then off they go on their lifelong journey!”

TTV has a long history of doing well at Nationals and we are sure we will be battling it out for plenty of podiums with the other states, particular those rivals we have in NSW!

They might be edging us out slightly on team size this year, which is impressive considering the number of players in the Team Vic side but hopefully we will be coming back with quite a few medals.

It isn’t all about winning medals though as enjoying the fantastic atmosphere and experiencing the fun of Nationals is just as important.

“The players you meet is certainly one of the best aspects of the whole event, especially year after year, where you form lifelong friendships,” said Claire.

“To experience the Nationals as a whole, playing for your State, competing against peers from other States, meeting them, just the whole week is a fantastic experience!” she explained
