St Kilda Cricket Table Tennis Club

Published Sat 28 Sep 2019

St Kilda Cricket Table Tennis Club was created in 1933 and is the oldest table tennis club in Victoria as it now enters its 86th year.

The club normally has approximately 30 members, aged between 25 and 75 years old. The club plays once a week in the Wednesday pennant, held at MSAC. Overall, the club is going well with stable numbers and growth over the last five years.

“We have increased from an average of seven teams to nine teams entered into each pennant season over the past five years – most of our players are aged over 50” President Rodney Cowling said.

In order to recruit members, St Kilda has found discounting fees (a committee decision) has helped numbers that were dwindling.

The regular presence of well-known Veterans player and coach, Brian Berry, at MSAC also helps with creating links and recognition between the Albert Park venue’s casual social participants, and the club pathway.

“The majority of our players pay for the whole year in advance.”

“We have a club championship and an annual dinner/presentation night as other club benefits, plus club uniform.”

TTV would like to take the opportunity to thank St Kilda Cricket Table Tennis Club for their long and continued support of the sport in general, but in particular for its dedication to the Wednesday night pennant competition which has been held in Albert Park for many years.
