Published Tue 13 Sep 2022

The 2022 Mornington Frankston Senior and Junior Open Championships took place over the weekend with Croydon’s Sajith Silva and New Zealand’s Jiayi Zhou taking out the Senior Open titles whilst Croydon dominates the junior results.

Silva took a couple of quick wins in his group stage matches before moving through the finals only dropping one set on his way to the title match. He was too strong for Coburg’s Zachary Anstey in the final, winning in straight sets.

Fresh off her week of representing New Zealand at the 2022 Eastland ITTF-Oceania Championships Jiyai Zhou took a trip down to Mornington and cruised her way to five victories to claim the Open Women’s Singles title ahead of Bairnsdale’s Danica Alburo.

In the U/21 Men’s Singles Coburg’s Rocky Chen took home the title following an impressive performance that saw him take both group wins before dropping a solitary set on his way to the championship. In the U/21 Women's, Dandenong's Ellen Walker won each of her matches to take home the title.

Anstey slightly made up for the disappointment of finishing second in the Open Men’s by winning the Twenties Open Singles title whilst Albury’s Sam Palmer and Dandenong’s Linda Suy won the O/30 Men’s and Women’s Open Singles.
