Results Across Victoria - Orford Week 3

Published Tue 28 Jul 2020

At Table Tennis Victoria we love hearing stories and seeing results from all over the state, so we have decided to start a bit of a weekly round up of results and stories that our wonderful members and affiliates have sent in.

We understand that Covid-19 restrictions have negatively affected the ability for Clubs and Associations to return to play but if you or your club would like any stories or results published through TTV please send an email to mmo@tabletennisvic.org.au.

The following piece is an update on how week two down at Orford & District TTA unfolded.

ORFORD & DISTRICT TABLE TENNIS ASSOCIATION

After taking a fortnight recess due to the virus scare, the committee of the Orford & District Table Tennis decided late last week to return to play this week.

In the meantime, Nightowl finds that the Pt Fairy Gazette has raised for the second time in the Owl’s reporting years from the ashes to again keep the local district informed. This means some catch up weeks!

Pt Fairy Gazette is not the only name to rise from the ashes, Vikings team name returns this week to fill the void left by Broadwater standing down for the rest of the season.

Myndarra brought Attunga’s undefeated run to an end. Warrnambool Warriors tightened their grip on ladders top spot. Even at this early stage the divide between the top four sides and the rest is opening up. With eight teams, there is the scope for a A & B grade final series, just need a full season of play first!

Results Week 3

Myndarra defeated Attunga 5.21/3.13

The upset rubber of this match was Attunga’s Kelly Wortley defeating Dom Angarano, Myndarra 12/10, 11/7, 5/11, 9/11 & 11/8. Myndarra’s Aaron Rowbottom won his three rubbers dropping a game to Val Wortley, Dom won two rubbers while Ally Rowbottom defeated Pat Dwyer 8/11, 11/5, 11/5, 4/11 & 11/6. Best for Attunga was Kelly, while Val Wortley won a rubber on a night where five rubbers were extended.

Orford defeated Tarrone 6.18/3.12

Orford’s Tony Storer, Ray Young and David Rowbottom all won two rubbers while Tarrone’s David Warhurst won his three. Seems that the second round of rubbers the players put more into it as all three rubbers were extended to four games, Orford winning two and Tarrone the third.

Pt Fairy lost to Warrnambool Warriors 7.24/2.11

No doubles, early night, forget it! With five of nine rubbers extended, coupled with high game scores, both teams hit out some cobwebs.

Pt Fairy’s Anthony Ciconte opened the night with a five-game win over Warrior’s Neil Ford 11/8, 5/11, 10/12, 11/8 & 11/5 setting the tone for the night. Anthony lost in five to Peter Owen 9/11, 11/8, 9/11, 13/11 & 6/11 Peter went on to win his three rubbers for the night. Warrnambool Warriors were able to win three of the four rubbers that went to four games, with Neil and David Cranwell winning two rubbers, Anthony was Pt Fairy’s best with two rubbers.

Glengleeson received a forfeit from Broadwater

Week 4

Tarrone v Myndarra

This close match depends on the Myndarra youngsters in Nick Bartlett and Ally Rowbottom winning two rubbers. Aaron Rowbottom just might be their only three rubber winner if David Warhurst, Andrew McGrath and Steve Young account for the youngsters.

Warrnambool Warriors v Orford

Warriors will have an enjoyable trip back to Warrnambool after plundering the four points in a wipe-out.

Vikings v Pt Fairy

Due to virus concerns Broadwater has pulled out of the competition, but a team has rose to fill the void. Dom Angarano, Ray Young and Bill Lyons have put their heads together and decided to have a go. They just might have their first win with this match.

Attunga v Glengleeson

Attunga will gain valuable percentage in this match.

Week 5

Myndarra v Warrnambool Warriors

Warriors will continue their winning way, adding to their percentage lead. Myndarra’s Aaron Rowbottom offering some resistance. Highlight rubber of the night being ex team members Aaron against Warrnambool Warriors Peter Owen both having played with or against each other for a number of years.

Orford v Pt Fairy

Pt Fairy should open their account with a win over Orford. Anthony Ciconte, Barry Stewart and Bob Shanahan will be too strong for Orford’s David Rowbottom, Cloe Bartlett and Jaydan Clapp.

Attunga v Vikings

This will be an indication on just how strong Vikings are. Though Attunga are still without Ian Wortley, both Val and Kelly offer strong competition. Nightowl fears this will be a late night of long rubbers and high scoring games.

Glengleeson v Tarrone

Tarrone’s Andrew McGrath, David Warhurst and Steve Young will be too strong for Glengleeson’s Gareth Spring, Tony Storer and Lindsay Morton.
