Remaining 2020 Tournaments Cancelled
Published Tue 18 Aug 2020
Table Tennis Victoria regrets to inform its Members and Affiliates that all remaining tournaments for 2020 will be cancelled due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, and the related uncertainty surrounding Victoria’s restrictions on mass gatherings and sporting events.
The events that were still scheduled for later in the year that have now been cancelled are:
- Albury/Wodonga Junior
- Albury/Wodonga Senior
- Victorian Open Veterans
- Victorian Open Junior
- Victorian Open Senior
- Albury/Wodonga Veterans
A reminder that TTA have also announced the cancellation of the National Championships which were scheduled to be held in Victoria later in the year.
This was a very hard decision to make, but the health and safety of all TTV members and staff is our top priority.
Much like TTA’s decision relating to the National Championships, there were many factors that went into this decision. Ultimately, member and staff safety is paramount.
While we hope that the COVID-19 situation improves over the next few months, consideration has to be given to the effort and time that goes in to planning and hosting these tournaments, in addition to the obvious health concerns.
As such, it was felt that the only prudent decision is to reluctantly cancel these events.
“It is with a heavy heart that TTV makes the announcement to cancel all remaining events for 2020, but realistically we were left with no other responsible decision, given the restrictions in place around Victoria and the time-frames involved,” Said TTV CEO Ritchie Hinton.
“Although disappointing news for the immediate short-term, we hope that the absence of table tennis events for our Members this year will see a surge in entries when the events calendar re-starts in 2021.”
We look forward to seeing all Members and Affiliates back on the tables and enjoying tournaments in next year.
