Nicholas Lum & Finn Luu

Published Fri 15 Feb 2019

Victoria’s best two junior boys have embarked on an overseas tour with Australian coach John Murphy. The 1st tournament on the tour was the 24th International Open Table Tennis Championship held in Budapest, Hungary.

Both Finn & Nicholas entered both the Junior Boys Singles & Cadet Boys Singles. Each event consisted with 95 & 128 entries respectively.

In the 24 year history of this tournament, there had never been a winner coming from outside of Europe – well that ended this year.

Nicholas & Finn battled all the way through 126 other competitors to both reach the final of the Boys Cadet Singles. In the final, Nicholas won his 1st International tournament, winning 3/2 over his compatriot, Finn.

In the Junior Boys Singles, both boys played well, with Nicholas advancing to the Round of 16 and Finn went further to the Semi Final stage, where they were not able to advance any further.

Well done to both boys, but in particular to Nicholas on winning the Cadet singles.

Both players are now involved in the Czech Junior & Cadet Open and we wish them both all the best.
