Meet the Vic's - Finn Luu

Published Mon 22 Jun 2020

In this edition of Table Tennis Victoria’s Meet the Vic’s we spoke to one of our most promising young stars, 15-year-old HWATT player Finn Luu.

Finn began playing table tennis at just six years old and has never looked back, representing Victoria and Australia on his way to some very impressive achievements.

I started playing when I was six and a half at MSAC with Simon and Joe Gerada,” said Finn.

“Since then I have travelled to more countries and states than I can count, to train and compete. I’ve met many great coaches and mentors and great players and have learnt many lessons along the way.”

Having already travelled and competed at such a high level, Finn has collected his fair share of accolades and achievements. One of the most impressive is reaching as high as 11th in the world for cadets and winning the Singles title at the Junior Nationals in 2019. He has also already represented Victoria ten times.

“I enjoy competing for my state because it is where I live and grew up. I have many memories living in Victoria, and I want to play the best that I can for my State,” said Finn.

With his favourite table tennis moment coming with his win in the Junior Singles event at the 2019 Nationals, we are all hoping he can make some more great memories in 2020 despite the disruption to sport and society across the world.

For 2020 he is still hoping to continue improving into the best player he can be on and off the table.

“I know that will involve a lot of hard work and training. Also, to build on my physical and mental strength. It will be a tough year, but I look forward to the challenges,” he said.

“My coach Simon and John and my parents have been great influences on me, always leading by example and nudging me in the right direction. There’s been many other coaches and mentors along my journey, and they have all been positive influences too.”

With the support Finn has we are sure he will continue doing some fantastic things and representing Victoria and Australia extremely well and everyone at Table Tennis Victoria is very excited!
