Finn Luu Awarded VIS Future Talent Scholarship

Published Tue 06 Aug 2019

TTV is delighted to announce that Finn Luu (14) has been awarded a Future Talent Scholarship by the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS).

The VIS currently supports over 300 athletes across 50 sports including able-bodied athletes and athletes with a disability by providing medical, nutrition, performance lifestyle. psychology, physiotherapy, and sport science services.

Finn attended his induction early last week and steps are already in place to help further his training environment with appointments to take advantage of expert advice across the health, fitness and lifestyle sectors.

“His induction clearly demonstrated how the VIS are a well-resourced professional organization whose cross-functional support will increase quality table time, through offering Finn their expertise in areas including strength and conditioning, injury prevention, and lifestyle management”, said Simon Gerada, the National Assistant Coach and Finn’s long-time club coach and mentor.

"I first visited and toured the VIS facility when I was nine years old, and it has been a benchmark to aspire to ever since.

I’m excited to have been accepted onto the program by the VIS and for nomination by TTV, but mostly excited to take my daily environment to another level”, said Luu.

Luu now trains daily with the National Squad, which runs sessions across Melbourne at Croydon, LOOPS (Sunshine) and MSAC.

TTV would also like to acknowledge fellow TTV players Melissa Tapper, Ma Lin, Qian Yang and Li Na Lei who are current holders of Individual Athlete Scholarship Program.

These scholarships are awarded to athletes recognized as having strong medal prospects at Paralympic and Commonwealth level.

VIS support for these 4 athletes has been confirmed through up until Dec 2020.

Congratulations to all, and thanks to VIS for their continued support of Victorian table tennis.
