Event Preview - 2021 Victorian Open Veterans Championships

Draft Draw > (with updated time table)

We are getting closer and closer to Easter which means it is almost time for doubles events to make a return at the 2021 Victorian Open Veterans Championships which are set to take place at MSAC between April 3-5.

Due to scheduling and COVID-19 restrictions the Dandenong and Croydon Open tournaments were unable to hold doubles events, which despite being necessary, has still been disappointing. As the Victorian Open is a State Championship we felt it was important to ensure some doubles titles were made available and we can’t wait to see some exciting doubles play at MSAC.

Plenty of Veterans talent have come away with fantastic results across the first two tournaments of the year and we are keen to see them in action again. Adam Fu, Judy James, Igor Klaff, Reddy Tatikonda, Vivienne Halocha and Lan Zhai are just a few of the players that have added titles to their names in 2021 and will be looking for a State Championship over Easter!

We will also be playing host to a few interstate players who will be attempting to take some Victorian titles back home across the border with them. Lorraine Baker from SA, Michael Bowrey from ACT and Peter Wood from NSW have all booked a trip to Melbourne to compete.

While Doubles entries have been good, there are still a few people needing partners. If you are entered in the Vic Open Vets, and only in one doubles event at the moment, you can sign up for one of the doubles spots at a discounted rate of $10 per event, to do so please GO HERE. After you have entered your National ID, it will take you to the list of players who need a partner in events you are eligible for.

The tournament will be aged singles and gender doubles only with a very similar format to the Croydon and Dandenong Opens.

  • Top 2 go into the Main knockout draw.
  • 3rd/4th/5th/6th go into the Consolation knockout draw.
  • Groups of 4-5-6 where possible depending on the number of entries.
  • Round robin groups of 3 in Gender Doubles - top pair only progressing to the knockout. (No Mixed Doubles)

The current timetable for events will see two sessions across each of the three days, beginning at 9am and 2pm. The timetable may be subject to change once the draw has been finalised.
