Coburg TT Club- Anzac Eve event 24th April

On Sunday the 24th of April Coburg Table Tennis Club will host a Community free event named ‘THE ANZAC EVE EVENT ‘.
There’ll be 16 outstanding table tennis players representing 4 teams. The theme is called ‘Women at War’ and this year, two leading female players will be the competitors, former Australian representative Jenny Langridge, and Maggie Meng a former Chinese coach.
Included in this year’s event is former French league player Pascal Houron including top local players such as Frank Gu, Craig Carter, Eric Huang and Brian Berry. Last Year's winner was David Powell, who will represent Australia in this year's Rio Olympics. Each team will be led onto the court by a female member of the club.
Besides the current Victorian players, other legends of the sport such as Jim Kilderry who has been ranked in the top 50 players in Victoria in the last few decades will also be present.
The mayor of Moreland Samantha Ratnam will be in attendance including the Member for Wills, Mr Kelvin Thompson who will present two Australian Sport awards. Soldiers will lead players and officials onto the arena. Mainstreet band will perform 2 songs as well as local music teacher Mary Petts and her son William who will entertain visitors as they arrive.
The Secretary of Coburg RSL will present the Anzac ode and during a break there will be demonstrations from athletes with disabilities with former Australian champion and current CEO of Table Tennis Victoria, Dennis Makaling who was inducted in the Coburg club’s Hall of Fame. Dennis will hit with 15 year old Leanne Huynh who will also demonstrate her skills.
The World Indoor Boomerang throwing record holder will show his skills with his indoor speed boomerang.
The teams will be competing for trophies and commemorative mugs and the player voted ‘best in this event’ will be awarded the Bill Sibbison medal .
The event commences at 5.30pm which is free of charge for all spectators and a large crowd is anticipated .
The clubrooms now has posters from Veterans affairs all around the hall and people are invited to bring in war memorabilia to put on display for all to see when they attend.
