Christchurch Tragedy

Published Mon 18 Mar 2019

The Board of Table Tennis Victoria, its staff, affiliates and members were shocked and saddened by the senseless and brutal attack on innocent victims who were at prayer at Mosques in Christchurch, NZ,resulting in 50 deaths (to date) and approximately the same number injured.

We wish to express our deepest sympathy to all those affected, especially to the families and friends of those who were attacked.

As a State Sporting Organisation, Table Tennis Victoria comprise people from many different cultures and religious backgrounds - this diversity of membership and play is welcomed and encouraged.

We are all benefiting from the interaction, education and competition which abounds with this inclusiveness. The leadership and membership of Table Tennis Victoria will continue to welcome and celebrate the differences in cultural and religious backgrounds which table tennis players bring to our organisation and its activities. We are deeply saddened to see such terror inflicted on our valued NZ neighbours.

We hope that the inclusiveness and collegiality that exists within our sport, can assist in spreading diversity and cultural sensitivity in the wider community.
