Chao has a day out at the 2023 Geelong Open!

Last Saturday and Sunday the 11th and 12th of February, the 2023 Geelong Open Veterans and Junior/ Seniors tournament took place at the Geelong Table Tennis Association Stadium with some high-quality Table Tennis played across the two days.
Croydon’s JiaMing Chao had an absolute day out at the Geelong Open Championships last weekend, winning three titles; Women's Singles, Women's Double's and the Mixed Doubles, having teamed up with Lucas Lum in the latter.
Sanish Ambekar took out the Men's Single Title with Lucas Lum and Jiayi Zhou taking out the Under 21 Men's and Women's single titles with Lum the runner up in the Men's Singles.
Rising star Connie Psihogios had an enjoyable day, winning two titles in the Under 17's Girl's and Under 17's Girl's Doubles, kicking her 2023 off in style.
Across some of the other Junior categories, Yousef Hassan defeated Zhongye Huang in the Under 17's Boy's Singles final as well as taking out the Under 19's Boys Single's Final, continuing from last year's form after taking out the Under 15's Boy's Singles. Qinle Xia took home the Under 13's and 15's Girl's Singles titles with State Pathways attendee, Brian Tesler taking out the Under 11's Boys Singles.

In the Veterans, Warrnambool’s Simon Johnson was one of the big winners coming away with three titles in the O/30 Men’s Singles, O/40 Men’s Singles and Division 1 Singles while coming runner-up in the Over 40's Men's Doubles.
Albert Park's Igor Klaf also had a fantastic day with two titles in the O/80 Singles and O/70/75/80 Men’s Doubles. Christina Xiong (Sunshine) had a great day with victories in the O/40 and O/50 Women’s Singles. As did Geelong’s Debbie Wilson in her home tournament winning the O/60-65 Women’s Doubles and O/60 Single’s.
TTV CEO Gen Dohrmann, who visited both days of play, said that it was great to see such high numbers for the first tournament of the year.
"It was a pleasure to head out and visit both days of play. There was some high-quality table tennis played and it was amazing to see all 33 tables in use on Sunday for the Junior/ Seniors".
"I want to congratulate Geelong Table Tennis Association for running an incredibly successful tournament and I look forward to seeing such solid numbers at our next tournament".
