Albury/Wodonga Senior & Junior Open Championships: Sam Palmer and Yuhan Li Win Albury Open Singles

Albury’s Sam Palmer and Croydon young gun Yuhan Li have taken out the Men’s and Women’s Open Singles titles at last weekends Albury Wodonga Open Championships.

Palmer came in as the number one seed and breezed through his three group matches in straight sets. It wasn’t until the quarter finals that he finally dropped a set to Croydon’s Harsh Madaan. Moving on he went down three sets to one in the semi-final before fighting back fantastically and going on to play a six-set match in the final against Coburg’s Raymond Myrteza.

In the Open Women’s Singles, 15-year-old Yuhan Li (Croydon) claimed the title from third seed. After an opening match that went to seven sets, Li settled in and won her final two matches in four to take the victory. She also took home the Division 4 Singles title later that day.

Croydon’s Bradley Paton won the Division 1 singles, and it was a battle of brothers again in the Division 2 Singles final with Albury’s Max Geering taking the win over brother Levi. Boswen Wang won the Singles title in Division 3.

Raymond Myrteza defeated Max Geering in the final of the U/21 Men’s Singles ensuring he didn’t head home empty handed, while Bradley Paton teamed up with Coburg’s Partha Gogoi to win the Open Doubles.

In the Junior Open on Saturday, Albury’s Max Geering playing on his home tables took out two titles winning the U/17 and U/19 Boy’s Singles titles putting him in some good that he carried into the Senior Open on Sunday.

Open Women’s champion Yuhan Li won the U/17 Girl’s Singles title. Croydon’s Kavyaa Madaan won two titles in the U/15 and U/13 Girl’s Singles.

Mornington’s Charlie Hollow and Loops’ Aiden Tang won the U/15 and U/13 Boy’s Singles Championships respectively, while Loops’ Charith Chowdhary Yandrapally and Croydon’s Shrinika Hariprasad won the U/11 Singles titles. Geelong’s Samarth Singh won the U/9 Singles.

“It was fantastic to get back to a tournament format that closer resembles pre-covid tournaments and hopefully we’ll be seeing more and more of this in the future.” Said TTV ECO Claire Montgomery who was in Albury for the tournament.

New State Team Points are also now available online after being updated with the Albury Wodonga results.

The next tournaments up on the TTV State Tournament Circuit are the Victorian Country and Metro Championships. Individual entries are still open and available below.
