A Fantastic First Week of HP at MSAC

Published Tue 16 Feb 2021

On Sunday the 7th of February the first session of the 2021 Table Tennis Victoria High Performance Program kicked off under the guidance of TTV’s new High Performance and Competitions Manager Rahul Mathew.

With over 50 players, eight coaches, 24 tables and a visit from the Australian National Coach John Murphy who stopped by and helped train some of Victoria’s most promising players, the first instalment of the 2021 program was a resounding success!

“It feels amazing to see all our promising juniors and seniors back on court, we had record numbers on the first Sunday, 51 to be exact and it felt like MSAC was not big enough to hold them,” said TTV HP & Competitions Manager Rahul Mathew.

“This term, the collaboration with the national squad coaches, the HP coaches and all the club coaches are better. We have a better structure; we have access to more tables and more volunteer coaches are willing to step in to help the program grow which has made a huge difference compared to the previous season.

“Overall, this year looks very promising and hopefully, we will see those results translate into success at this year's national and state championships.” He said.

TTV CEO Ritchie Hinton was also ecstatic with the turn out for the first week of the program and grateful for the fantastic support TTV and the High Performance program has received from some of our fantastic partners including the Victorian Institute of Sport, AGMC Sports and S-Trend Apparel.

“It’s wonderful to see the TTV High Performance program start with a bang on that Sunday at Albert Park,” said Hinton.

“All 24 tables packed with over 50 juniors at the State Table Tennis Centre at MSAC is an inspiring sight, and bodes well for the future of Victorian table tennis.

“I’m sure that their hard work will pay off in strong results if selected to represent the S-Trend TTV State Team at the national championships in Caloundra in July later this year.

“I’d also like to thank the Victorian Institute of Sport for their on-going support, AGMC Sports for their equipment donations, as well as the coaches and parents for their co-operation and understanding as we continue to seek to improve and refine the program over the coming months.”
