2024 Hamilton Open Preview
Published Thu 03 Oct 2024
The 2024 Hamilton “Mid-Western” Junior/Senior Open is taking place this weekend from October 5-6.
Set for play at Hamilton Indoor Leisure & Aquatic Centre, the Juniors will be playing on Saturday with the Senior Open taking place on Sunday.
Hamilton Table Tennis Association President Michael Fitzpatrick spoke to us this week sharing how “We are really excited to welcome players from both our local region including Warrnambool, Portland and across the border in Mount Gambier, along with many players making the longer journey from Melbourne and other various parts of Victoria, for our first table tennis tournament since 2012!”
“The “Mid-Western” was an annual fixture on the Hamilton calendar throughout the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s, and we’re excited to have it back and hopefully here to stay!”
“Hamilton locals are going to be treated to some elite table tennis over the weekend, some being able to test their skills against the best in the state. The juniors on Saturday have some very strong entries, including Samyukt Vinodhkumar, Brian Tesler and Pin-Yi Lu all in the under 13 boys singles to name just a few.”
“In the Open Singles on Sunday, Zach Anstey and Ben Taylor head a strong field, with the Women’s title expected to become a family battle between local siblings Katie and Heidi Wooldridge, while in the over 30 men’s singles, Ben Taylor and local Nathan Coombes will be hard to stop.”
“The club has been working hard to ensure everything is in readiness for the weekend. We’re rolling out 6 brand new tables (thanks to a grant from Southern Grampians Shire Council) onto the main basketball show court at HILAC (where there is plenty of seating for spectators), to complement the existing 8 tables in the table tennis facility. We’d also like to thank our other sponsors – Tapper Builders, Coggergurry Chartered Accountants, Hamilton Lakeside Motel and Affordable Table Tennis for helping to make this happen.”
“And for those playing on Sunday, don’t forget to wind your clocks forward on Saturday night for daylight savings time!”
“There will be plenty of parking at HILAC (Hamilton Indoor Leisure & Aquatic Centre), and the HILAC café will be open throughout both days for coffee and various food and drink options” added Fitzpatrick.
