2024 Dandenong Open Review

Published Tue 06 Aug 2024

The 2024 Dandenong Junior/Senior Open was held last weekend and the tournament was an outstanding experience for everyone involved with over 200 players taking part. The Junior Boys Open was held on Saturday August 3rd, whilst the Junior Girls and Senior Open took place on August 4th.

Greater Dandenong Table Tennis Association Treasurer Greg Robbins shared his reflections on the tournament stating:

“We were lucky enough to have current Australian champion Dillon Chambers playing the Men's Open and he was up against Sajith Silva (defending Dandenong Men's champion) in the final. In a close and entertaining match, Dillon came through with the win 4-2 (8, -8, -9, 6, 8, 9).”

"Alice Xia proved she is one of the top Australian female juniors coming through the ranks winning the Womens Open, Under 21 Womens singles and Under 19 Girls singles and remaining undefeated for the tournament. Alice was up against Ellen Walker in the Women's final, and after trailing 2-1, was able to win the final match 4-2 (5, -8, -11, 3, 4, 6)."

“There was plenty to cheer about for the Dandenong spectators. One of Dandenong's top junior players, Immanuel Mullapudi winning both the Under 15 Boys Singles (seeded 4th) and Under 17 Boys Singles (seeded 8th). For a player that has only been playing Dandenong League for less than 2 years, his improvement has been incredible and certainly an exciting prospect for the club.”

“Dandenong coach Michael Mastromonaco proving his class winning the Over 30 Men's singles defeating Edward Truong in the final (-8, 9, 7, 8 ).”

“Lydia Tran also had a great tournament finishing runners up in the Under 15 Girls against Ariel Li (6, 4, -7, 7)” added Robbins.
