TTV Board Member and Croydon Tournament Director Greg Bristowe had a busy weekend helping organise and run the Metro Championships across both venues while also finding the time to jump on the tables to represent Croydon.

"We had lots of great matches played in the teams' competition in both venues. The top-grade was won by Coburg, who actually finished 1st and 2nd, but the results could have gone either way for all four teams, so it was fantastic seeing that level of competition and is a testament to how evenly matched the four teams were,” said Bristowe reflecting on the weekend.

“On Sunday there were 100 players who competed in various events and young guns Yousef Hassan from Coburg and Victoria Zhang from Croydon were able to win the Open Singles events.”

Throughout the entire weekend, volunteers from several clubs helped the event run smoothly which did not go unnoticed by the tournament organisers.

“I would like to give a shout out to Graeme Ireland and Yoke-Ching Tan who helped greatly with the teams' event, and also to the Juniors who helped in the office on Sunday,” Said Bristowe.

“It's great that players from different clubs can work together for an event like this. The number of team entries was a lot more than we had anticipated, so we shall ensure we anticipate something similar happening again next year. We will look to taking some feedback from this weekend's event and potentially look to tweak some changes for next year.”

Overall, the 2022 Metro Championships was a resounding success and the largest Metro Championships ever held. While the Country Championships may still have the edge with numbers and popularity, 2022 showed the Metro Championships is in for a fantastic future.

TTV would like to say a very big well done to all of those who competed and to everyone who volunteered their time to put on such a great tournament.
