The 2020 Victorian Country Championships were originally scheduled for Bendigo over the Queen’s Birthday weekend, 6-8 June 2020.

This event was provisionally postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A survey* was distributed to Country members to gauge interest levels in participating in a truncated 2-day event, to be held at MSAC (Albert Park) later in the year (31 Oct – 1 Nov, 2020) in the absence of Bendigo being able to host such an event, as indicated.

62% of all respondents (approx. two thirds) indicated they would prefer the 2-day version, as opposed to no event at all.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, the provisional alternative dates suggested were not able to be confirmed by MSAC, with no alternate dates possible.

TTV has therefore taken the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Victorian Country Championships.

2021 Victorian Country Championships

2021 will see the 70th anniversary of the Country Championships in Victoria.

The survey* also asked Country members to indicate their preference regarding the future location of the event.

49% (approx. half) of all respondents indicated that they would prefer that Bendigo not be the exclusive home of the tournament moving forward **

In line with the Profile pillar of the 2019-23 Strategic Plan, ‘Our Future Now!’, and acknowledging the volunteer fatigue that hosting major events inevitably involves, TTV have decided that the 2021 Victorian Country Championships will be held at MSAC over the traditional Queen’s Birthday weekend (12-14 June, 2021).

TTV would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Bendigo & Districts TTA for their hard work in hosting this event for the last 4 years since 2016.


* survey responses were received from 304 individuals representing 24 different Country Affiliates. Given that 2019 event had around 350 participants, this sample size provided a strong evidence base to work from.
