2017 Victorian Metropolitan Affiliates Championships

With a revamped format for this year’s Championships, player and affiliates numbers swelled, with great support from TTV there was 111 players and 9 Affiliates entered. And once the event was concluded, almost 700 matches were played.

On Saturday, the team’s event was held and there was 46 teams entered over 8 grades. Affiliates were represented from Croydon & Districts, Coburg, Greater Dandenong, Diamond Valley, Manningham, Miao Miao TT Academy, St.Kilda Cricket, ES&CTTA and Melbourne Veterans.

Players of all standards competed, from the low level club player to National representative and a World Champion. Whilst everyone fought hard in all their matches, we all had a great time together and enjoyed the camaraderie.

Half the players came back the following day to compete in the Individual championships, and it ironic the Open Men’s & Women’s champions are former country players, with Dillon Chambers (a two time Country Singles Champion) and Mackenzie Gardner now playing for Croydon & Districts winning these titles.

We all look forward to next year, and from what several players were saying, they will be bringing more from their clubs next time as well.
