Event information
This event has passed.
After a 2 year hiatus, we will again be conducting Metropolitan Association Championships. It was able to be
conducted over 2 days, however we will be tinkering with the format to ensure it is only a 2 day event.
On the Saturday, all teams’ matches will be conducted. A grade will consist of 6 teams. On the Sunday, the individual
tournament will be conducted, it will have doubles and singles played on this day. Only players who have played in
teams can enter the individual tournament.
As an added bonus, Table Tennis Victoria has decided that players who play in Open or Age singles of the
tournament will have State Team Points awarded. To be eligible to play the individual tournament, a player
must have played in the team’s event (as a singles player).
The Championships will be held on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend of June 10 – 11, which is the same weekend
that the Country Championships are held at Bendigo. It will be held at the Kilsyth Sports Stadium.
Due to the long running history of the Country Championships, if you have a player in your Association, who also
plays in a Country Association, they will only be allowed to compete in the Metro Championships if they were
registered for your Association in 2016 & 2017.
As a condition of entry, as this is a Graded Teams tournament, it is highly recommended that you field your best
players in your 1st team, followed by your next best players and so on.
The Kilsyth Table Tennis Stadium has 23 courts. So this will mean there will be a cap on how many teams can
actually enter. The cap is somewhere between 48 – 54 teams.
The format for these championships will consist of two players per team, where each player plays 2 singles and there
is 1 doubles in a team match. All team matches are best of 5 individual matches and a result will be achieved by
whichever team wins the most rubbers (e.g. 5/0, 4/1 or 3/2). You may have up to 4 players listed in each team,
however to be eligible to play the individual tournament on the Sunday, players must play in a team as a singles
player.
Team ladders will be on wins and losses and each grade will be determined by the team that wins the most rounds.
Leading players will be determined by rubbers won and if there is more than one player equal on wins, a count back
will be undertaken to determine the leading player.
Each grade will consist of 5-6 teams. We are hoping to have 11 grades in total. The grade names will most likely be;
A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2, D1 & D2. We are looking for players of all standards as we wish to cater for the higher skilled
player as well as the beginner level player.
The cost for team entry cost is $70. The cost for individual singles will be $10 per event and $8 per player for
doubles per event. Closing date for team entries is Monday 12th May, closing dates for individual tournament will be
on Friday 2nd June at 9.00pm.
We look forward to having your Association join us in this new exciting competition and if you have any questions,
please do not hesitate to contact me.
